Very interesting. Did you spill the ink before you had drawn anything? Is the red and black thing feeding the bird, or is the bird just in agony, or both? The ink spot reminds me of an alien in one of my favorite cartoons.

before I'd actually put pen to paper I spilt it all over, the red/black is intended to be the anguish and frustration of being 'free'.

Mmmmm, inky.....
I thought the red looked like a squiggly bird, but I'm one who likes to pick out shapes and images in things.
I imagine your sketchbook to be a place of wonder if it's all like that. Messy and imaginative and smooshy...
And you're damned right, we need more art. I think I shall have to buy some black paper and get cracking on some oil pastel pictures. Been aching to do some for a wee while.

really strong bird image and also love the black ink spills. I actually think it would be better without the red design. The blank space would provide a nice strong composition.

yeah I see what you mean, I have a pic of the first bird without any 'red' but it seems lacking... I'm trying to do a quick study everyday:

What's the thing dangling from the hand? It looks like a bird head with mushrooms growing out of it. Or it looks like a rooster head with the comb and wattle all discombobulated and wrapped around.

I like the dripping man. I think that's what you should call it. In the rib cage picture, is it what once was could never last? The once is kind of hard to make out if it is once.

They are gorgeous, I love the roughness of the ink. The lines are so organic and raw.. great pieces...

These are really good; kind of violent and visceral while at the same time showing a desperation and vulnerability. I particularly like the one depicting the vein escaping the wrist in number 6. Good work.
