I was just wondering what made you all want to become writers? Personally it was my fixation with Jim Morrison and his mad-cap verse and HIS fascination with Rimbaud, who also greatly inspired my pen picking up. ?

Being a recluse in school from about 7th grade on, I wrote bloody, horrible poetry Mr. Shankly as I still have it to this day. I occasionally reread it. It is a lot like yours except much worse. I was very depressed and I swore I would burn the book when I found true happiness. Needless to say the book still exists.
Boredom too.
And I always wanted to be a painter, but I suck. So I think of paintings I would paint were I a painter, and try to describe it in my poetry.

I'm not a writer. I used to write, but I find alot more pleasure in art.

Yeah, I do my own art. I prefer my little happy cartoons, which I draw when I'm bored or in a fun mood. My uni notes, and even my old school notes, are littered with characters giving me into trouble for not paying attention.
I'm getting the hang of charcoal pencils at the moment. Life drawing classes at uni. Yay, I don't have to pay! And they're reeeeally helpful!! I want to be able to draw the human form in all it's glory.
I suppose I would say life and imagination are my inspirations for my own stories, characters and pictures/paintings. But I also desperately enjoy reproducing what I see in the form of objects, people, ect....

pain. that was what did it for me. the alcoholism was great for avoiding the problems at the time--but damn, do they ever come back in the morning... and with interest. other forms of self-destruction were great for distraction... but i learned that writing helped alleviate some of the agony.
i'll never forget the way it felt when someone read my work and sent me a message saying it gave her strength to fight for her own survival. ah! the poet has a purpose!
i bleed my heart onto paper with that pen.
i use a camera to reveal the way i see things... in hopes i'm not alone and you'll see it, too. or maybe i am alone.
i blame my ex--the only person i had ever loved more than myself (at that time)--and destroyed me. i blame my parents for a childhood i scarcely survived--if you can call it surviving. i blame society, because i can. lol. i'd blame god, but i keep getting his machine.

My mum writes so I write and always have. Possibly not as 'into-it' as other people on here but I write bits and pieces when I have time I think reading encourages people to write too.

We all have to be shit at something. I like to think those that can sing couldn't tie their shoe laces 'til they were eight.

I entirely agree. Cinema is quite enthralling. I find it a most wonderful medium.

The problem with inspiration is that sometimes you can be inspired too much. Simply put your work isn't your work.
