I think along certain lines about you,
though splinters of past events
cross the paths I kid myself I've taken;
jab me a little in pain, my vanity.
The sort when that fake boldness
or tipping point is reached,
and you believe in cause and effect;
that you invented a mirror
for the one you step outside yourself for.
I did that a lot and wonder now if you knew.

I still try to cover it up it's true,
as if your spirit regrets
not telling me if you knew, or breaking
my heart would be too much should the victory
be yours; you knew all along.
So I play hide and seek
while I sit here alone and select
what is best, for me, the sinner.
Four in the morning certain times of the year;
you are here. I still kid myself it's true.
