My issue with Artists ... those who take on a certain look and claim to be artists
Fraud ...
just because you grow your hair long and wild .... YOU ARE NOT AN ARTIST. you stop washing and stink in protest ... .... YOU ARE NOT AN ARTIST. if you grow a beard in the pursuit of an "art look" ... .... .... YOU ARE NOT AN ARTIST.
Just because you claim you are an artist does not mean you are one ... mentioned above are but a few

What would you consider an 'artist'? People have different views and opinions on that one, as I've learnt over recent weeks. I couldn't help but laugh at that post by the way, I know so many people who fit your descriptions perfectly...Frauds indeed.

i don't think this is strictly an "artist" thing. the same can be said for ...skateboarders? surfers? anarchists? hannah montanah? anything else in the entire world? posers are everywhere.

An artist is someone who really knows their craft. An artist can be a butcher, a miner, a programmer, a writer...
I'm sick to the back teeth of people who listened to that pointless fuck Warhol who said something close to: "An artist is someone who creates things people don't need."
An artist is someone who blends talent and skill over their medium to produce something that is so self contained that the rest of the universe can understand.

Just because your urine rings beautiful off porcelain doesn't make you an artist.

I believe being an artist is creating great art that makes people think. if you're art has the ability to make someone think more deeply about something: you are an artist.

I agree somewhat with you WA2. Art as output when it is of the constructive imaginative nature should inspire creation in the imagination of the consumer. If it is simply enjoyed it isn't art it is a product.

No-one would call "Eastenders" art. I hope. Very much.

There is a definite level of craft in Eastenders. All that work to do to such a tight deadline. The stories in that serial inspire your more common person who will talk about it to their friends, they will wonder what is going to happen next and discuss it. Their creative juices are flowing...
I myself don't like the soaps, but that doesn't mean they're not art.
